What We Do
Interventions
SAVE KC moves individuals away from lives close to violence before it's too late. We use custom notifications and "call-in" meetings to deliver key messages from city leaders, social services, law enforcement, and individuals who have already recreated their lives. We help clients build more productive and stable lives.
Community Outreach
We offer support services tailored for the unique needs of each individual and designed to move them away from criminal activity. We work on a case-by-case basis to understand each person's specific challenges and goals, then connect them to the most appropriate resources and services. This can include job training, education, mental health support and more.
Support Services
Violence grew so high in recent years that many community leaders and anti-violence organizations created coalitions to combat the disruption of daily violence in their neighborhoods. SAVE KC works with these community partners to show young offenders such violence will no longer be tolerated.

Focused Deterrence Model
We use a proven violence-reduction strategy known as "focused deterrence” it pinpoints the persons involved in gun violence and offers them support to change their lives, as well as clear consequences if they continue to be involved in violence. This strategy started in the 1990s with Boston’s Operation Ceasefire, which substantially reduced youth gun violence. The strategy requires direct communication, community partnerships and enforcement. It has been effective in numerous cities. A study of Oakland’s effort showed a 31% reduction in gun homicides and a 43% reduction in group-involved shootings.
.
Impact
SAVE KC initiated implementation of its focused deterrence strategy in 2024. SAVE KC has held five call-ins and conducted dozens of custom notifications of persons identified as being close to or involved in violence. Trends in gun violence since initiation are promising but multiple factors & efforts can impact trends in violence
From 2024 to 2025, the Kansas City, MO, Police Department reports the following specific patterns of violence:
Group-related homicides involving KCPD-identified violent group members as victims or suspects decreased 40%.
Non-fatal shootings involving KCPD-identified violent group members as victims or suspects dropped 62%.
Overall, victims of non-fatal shootings dropped 34%.
Incidents involving multiple non-fatal shooting victims fell 46%.
Non-fatal shooting incidents involving SAVE KC-identified individuals decreased 23%
